Every morning is a new opportunity to glow.
Even taking just a few minutes for ourselves sets our mind, body, and spirit up to succeed the rest of the day. We’re all busy, but if you can pause, breathe, meditate, savor a power breakfast, sneak a workout in, stretch, pray, call a friend, or dance your booty off, you’ll go into the rest of your day feeling empowered.
Maybe that means setting your alarm earlier. Maybe it means switching a morning appointment to later in the day. Whatever it means, go for it. Give yourself an extra few minutes to express gratitude that you’re able to get out of bed and start your day!
I just wrote about three healthy habits to get glowing in the morning over at 6 Months to Live. Click here to check out the article!
I also wanted to share a super simple routine that is one my favorite parts of the day. Drinking warm water with lemon when you first get up helps to hydrate your body and gives you the chance to savor a few minutes of sitting and sipping (perfect timing for a few long, deep breaths, right?).
Lemons are seen as gentle detoxifiers and warm water can stimulate peristalsis (meaning it gets your bowels moving- always good for detoxification). Adding spices like ginger, turmeric, cayenne, and cinnamon provides beneficial healing action, too! If you’d like to find out more about drinking warm water with lemon, check out this post.
Warm Water with Lemon
1/2 Lemon, juiced
Your favorite mug filled with warm water
Slices of fresh ginger (optional)
Slices of fresh turmeric (optional)
Sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
Sprinkle of cayenne pepper (optional)
Simply heat up some water and squeeze your lemon into it. Add whatever combination of the above ingredients or enjoy just the simple lemon juice.
**UPDATE 2/18: My friend, Brianne over at FemFusion Fitness, let me know about this handy tip: juice a bunch of lemons at once and then freeze the juice in an ice cube tray (add additional optional ingredients if desired). In the morning, simply heat your water and add a lemon cube!
– Do your prep at the beginning of the week to save time! I slice up several lemons and a knob of fresh ginger and turmeric and keep them in the fridge. This way they’re ready to be quickly added to a cup of warm water.
– Try to use organic ingredients if you can. If I can’t find organic, I like to peel my lemons before adding them to the water.
– Think about zesting your lemons before squeezing them in your mug – then you can use the zest in sauces, salads, and as a garnish.
