A great self-care practice is figuring out what you need in the mornings to power you through the day.
Each day is another opportunity to feel amazing (or as I say, “glow“), so don’t miss your chance to start out on the right foot.
Notice how your body reacts to your current pattern in the morning. Do you jump out of bed at the last minute and rush, rush, rush all morning? Do you wait to eat until you get to work and find you have the shakes because you waited too long to eat? Do you stuff a bagel in your mouth while driving to school and find you not only end up with cramps/bloating from eating too fast, but you feel hungry again an hour later?
I encourage you to:
1. notice how you wake up… if you rush through the mornings like a stressed out crazy person, try to get up a little earlier and give yourself a few minutes to breathe or meditate, workout/stretch, plan your day, and wake up fully.
2. take a look at what you’re eating for breakfast, how you eat it (sitting down, standing, etc.), and how you feel afterwards and throughout the day. Jot down notes to see if you can recognize a pattern or anything you’d like to improve.
Try to eat a solid breakfast that has a good mix of protein, carbs, and fat to give you lasting energy without weighing you down or making you crash shortly after. Consider taking time to sit down to eat, mindfully tasting your meal, and experimenting with different foods so you can get the most out of what you’re eating and have a better day!
Something that really helps with both of these suggestions is prepping the night before. By taking 10-20 minutes the night before, you can set yourself up for a much smoother day. I’ll be posting prep tips in the future.
And, don’t let up after breakfast… continue to live mindfully throughout the day as well! In future posts, I’ll provide tips to keep your glow mojo going all day.
What’s your morning routine like? Is there anything you’d like to improve?
