Finally, I’m back with a follow-up to the eco-friendly, natural beauty, hair, and body products series I posted earlier this summer. In case you missed it, I recently shared:
- 8 tips to easily make the switch to eco-friendly beauty and body products for anyone who has been wanting to make the switch to natural beauty, save money, and get the best products; and
- What’s in my make-up bag! My favorite natural beauty products and cosmetics – I did the research so you don’t have to… see all my favorites from Beautycounter to Honest Beauty to Burt’s Bees and more.
Today, I’m sharing my favorite natural beauty products, focusing on body and hair (and not on cosmetics as I did in this post).
I got into the whole non-toxic way of life when I was so sick. I realized that healing or being healthy is more than just about eating nutritious foods and self-care. It’s also about what we put on our skin, our largest organ… what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put in our bodies!
I started to research, try different products and brands, and have found many that I trust and love. It takes time to find products you love, and everyone is different, so check out my tips for making it easier to find your faves.
In the meantime, I have found a bunch of natural body and hair products that I love, so I wanted to feature my favorites with you.
I’m nowhere near perfect with the products I do use, but I believe every little bit of safer alternatives helps. For the most part, I try to limit the amount of products I use, and find items that are rated 0 – 3 on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database.
If you’re in the market for new, natural hair and body products, check out some of these and let me know what you think! I’ve included affiliate links for each product below, so you see more information about each product, pricing, how to order online, etc.
Soap, Lotions, and Sunless Tanner:
I love, love, love Alba’s Very Emollient Body Lotion and EO’s Coconut and Lemon 3 in 1 Lotion. I apply lotion to my body and face at least once or twice a day, and these both moisturize without leaving me greasy. I also just received the Una Biologicals Grapefruit Body Butter as a pregnancy gift from a colleague and won the Fable Naturals Lemon and Lavender Body Salve as part of the Caring Crate subscription box. Both are absolute gems!
I have very pale skin, so every once in a while I like to apply sunless tanner. I used to be a Jergen’s Glow girl, but switched to Nature’s Gate Sunless Tanner and have gotten everyone I know hooked!
Sunscreen, Perfumes, and Toothpaste:
Coola sunscreen is my all-time favorite natural sunscreen. I use the 30 SPF face and body sunscreens. It works well on my sensitive skin, and although it’s pricey, I think it’s worth it for superior, organic sun protection that doesn’t sting on my skin.
I’ve searched high and low for a nice natural fragrance. My mom got me some vanilla essential oil perfumes from Whole Foods (unpictured), which I absolutely love, but the labels have faded so I can’t share the product info. I also like LaVanilla, and keep their rollerballs with me all the time. My favorite scents: Vanilla Coconut and Vanilla Summer for warm summer days and nights, Fresh Vanilla Lemon for springtime, and Vanilla Pomegranate for fall/winter or nights out on the town.
I’ve recently gotten into Kiss My Face’s Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste. When using more mainstream toothpastes, I found that the sodium laurel sulfate and other harsh ingredients were making my lips scaly and sore. Once I switched to a more natural toothpaste, I got rid of the problem!
Shampoo, Conditioner, Smoothing Serum, Hairspray:
I recently got hooked on Alterna and Acure brands for hair care. My sister turned me on to Alterna, and I’ve been using their Bamboo Smoothing Oil on wet hair, then following up with their Anti-Humidity Hair Spray to finish the style. Sometimes I’ll even put some of the Dry Oil Mist on after spraying with hair spray to make it shinier.
I just finished my first bottles of Acure Repairing Shampoo and Condition. So far, so good! I have very dry hair, so they do a great job of moisturizing it.
Travel Size Toiletries:
Alterna’s Bamboo Anti-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioners in travel size come in handy when I’m on a long trip. I also like Dessert Essence’s Coconut Hand and Body Lotion and Hugo Natural’s Vanilla and Sweet Orange Shower Gel. They all make it easy to travel with natural body and hair products!
