I recently found out about ‘Treat Yourself Tuesday’ and wanted to invite you to participate. Becky, from the Olives n’ Wine blog, has created a lovely self-care theme, Treat Yourself Tuesday, about spending a little time on ourselves.
I love how she describes it:
“Do whatever feels best for you. Do something that will make you feel relaxed and loved and happy. Remember this is about treating YOURSELF – not your friends, not your family, not your spouse, not your dog – so make sure you really focus on you. Treat yourself well and treat yourself often so that you will become the best you possible and in turn be your best for others in your life!”
I know it can be hard to spend time on yourself. When I thought about what I would do to treat myself, I thought, ‘I don’t have time, I have to get this done and I need to do this, this, this…’ and so on. Ugh. But slowly I realized that in order to be able to do those things I listed, I need to take care of myself! We often find ourselves spread thin, stressed out, and burned out. This can reflect in our bodies in the form of pain, inflammation, chronic disease, and depression. Rather than run yourself into the ground or experience that dreaded ‘wake-up call’ in the form of getting sick or rundown, why not take a few minutes, a few hours, or a day (as a start!) to do something for yourself to get your mind, body, and soul back on track. Self-care is a very effective form of disease prevention. You truly deserve it!
I’m planning on taking time on Tuesday to get to my favorite dance class and I can’t wait! What will you be doing? Do you feel like you can truly commit? If you feel stressed even thinking about making time for yourself, start small. Take a couple of minutes several times throughout the day to breathe and relax your muscles. Go for a run, buy your favorite coffee/juice/smoothie, have a glass of wine, or catch up on your DVR shows. Whatever you do, try to be present and truly appreciate savoring you.
